6th Grade News
Parents! We still are looking for volunteers, if you would like to help, please contact your child’s teacher.
Its conference time again. Please mark your calendars and save the date. Teachers will be sending out conference slips this week to be filled out for an appointment to discuss your child’s progress. A conference is mandatory to receive your child’s report card. The 6th grade team is looking forward to meeting with all parents.
We have had our first school assembly and the ducks are in season. The fundraiser is going great. Many students are selling enough items to be entered for the Wii and many other great prizes.
Now that fall has arrived, please make sure you are taking your vitamins. The weather is changing and colds will be prevalent. Stay hydrated and healthy.
Campbell’s News:
Social Studies:
We have just finished talking about prehistoric man and have begun a unit on early Mesopotamia. The students will be creating posters showing the life styles, government, religion, and scientific advancements to get us to where we are today in our society.
Science:
We are still discussing the hierarchy of cells. The students started the unit drawing and labeling a plant and animal cell, they made a model of a lung out of a plastic bottle, balloon, and bag, and we are now going to create the body systems. The students are discovering that cells make tissues, that make, organs, that make, systems, that make us. Always remember to slow down a little in this world, spend an hour with your child outside looking at nature and how things work. Ask questions of your child about the everyday things that make the world go around. Talk about machines, bugs, animals, water, mountains, friends, how to use a knife and fork, just talk, and you will be amazed at some of the things kids say.
Elective:
We are continuing with science reading comprehension. Please take 30 minutes or more to read to your child, or have your child read to you. By listening to your child read you will discover if they are reading too fast, too slow, or just having trouble. You will connect with your child when you find books that excite them. I have many books that your child can check out in my room. So, read, read, read.
Thank you for Caring,
The 6th grade Team
