Happy Fall- 9-20/9-25

This week has been so productive.  We have finished our unit on the scientific method, variables, and a lesson on tools used in science.  The 6th grade also did and investigation making print drops to discover the relationship between height and width.   Ask your child what they found out.  We also made pinwheels for peace.  To celebrate the anniversary of 9-11, and try to understand tolerance, peace, and harmony.  Please try to advise your child, that when in school, tolerance is the way to proceed in a disagreement with others.  It is better to walk away and find an administrator than to take action into your own hands.

In Science this week:
We are beginning our unit on Cells.  We will be discussing cell theory, the parts of a cell, comparing and contrasting of a plant cell and animal cell.  We will also be creating posters of the plant and animal cell.  In this unit the students will be learning about diffusion and osmosis.  We will be conducting an investigation using potatoes to see the effects of diffusion.  Here the students will predict, record, and explain their results.
We are also still going to be making cells next week, so be on the look out for the materials list.

Campbell's home room Social Studies:
This week in social studies we are continuing our unit on the 5 themes of Geography.  We are discovering interaction and movement this week, and on Friday the students will have a test on this unit.

Campbell's home room Writing:
The students have finished their rough draft for their writing assignment on, What insect/animal would they become.  This was a narrative essay using the 5W's and H (who, what, where, when, why, and how).  The stories are really great so far.  We are moving on to editing our work this week.

Thank you to all the students and parents who have brought in supplies.  All supplies are greatly appreciated and welcomed all year round.

Thank you for caring,
Ms. Campbell
