Winter Break is Almost Here :)

Hellllooo Parents!
Winter break is almost here, the weather is perfect, and life is good as we know it.

The sixth grade did an awesome job at the play and sing along.  We are so proud of everyone.

The school days seem to be getting longer as we near the holiday break.  We ask all parents to please remind students, that school is still in session and to act appropriately.  We appreciate your help with this.

Thank you to all the families who have donated food for the food drive.  And, thank you all for the wonderful classroom supplies donations.  They are greatly appreciated.

In science this week- we are going to finish up our very long unit on the body systems.  The students are creating human bodies depicting all organ systems.  They are to draw a body and all the organs in the correct positions, labeled correctly.

In my social studies class- we are creating brochures of Ancient China.  The students will be answering questions about Ancient China, with the use of their text books and various other supplements.  If any parent has anything relating to China, please have your child bring it in to show the class.

In my elective- we will be writing friendly letters to the Injured Soldiers of America.  I feel that this is a great opportunity for students to reach out to the men and women who have been injured in the war, who might not receive cards and letters this holiday season.

My wish to all of the parents this holiday season; is to relax, enjoy the day with a cup of coffee, coco, or tea, and to spend time with family.  Wishing all hope, prosperity, joy, and calmness.

Happy Holidays,
Thank you for Caring,
Thank you for Sharing,

Oh my Gosh! Christmas is just Around the Corner :)

12-4-10
Parents, so sorry for not blogging last week but as you can see, I have finally put everyone's e-mail into my account.  I am really excited about this and it is working great so far.  The last two weeks have been extremely crazy.  Many students already think that winter break has begun and are slacking off with their class work, home work, and just being polite at school.  If you all could Please help the 6th grade team and remind your child that school is still in session and all policies and procedures still apply and are important.

Last week in Campbell's Class- We finished the skeletal and muscular systems.  We created Egyptian shadow boxes, which turned out great.  And we started our spelling bee elimination rounds.

This week in Campbell's Class- We are going to begin our studies on Ancient China- their government, geography, culture, and innovations.  In science we are reading about the respiratory, digestive, circulatory, and endocrine systems.  Please make sure that you are checking agendas and e-mails.

As always the 6th grade team can use some much needed supplies:
Copy paper, tissues, sanitary wipes, Pencils, and lined paper.  If you do donate any items, please have your child give them to their home room teacher.

As always,
Thank you for Caring,
Thank you for Sharing,

Turkey Day is Upon Us- 11-22/11-23

During these turbulent times we should slow down a little and give thanks for what we have and worry less about what we don't have.
Parents, Thank you so much for allowing me to educate your children.  I feel so lucky to be a part of each of their lives.  Thank you for putting in the time with your child, to get them to school on time, to make sure that they are prepared each day, and in making sure that they are happy and healthy.  Thank You.

On that note: This very short week, your child needs to be sure to bring all necessary supplies.
For Campbell's Science:
This includes, art supplies, PENCILS!, paper, and a pencil sharpener with a catcher, and a glue stick.
I am asking all parents to please remind your child that class time is for learning and not socializing.  Many students still feel that they can come to class and just talk through the whole period.  Please help me, remind your child that they need to follow all expectations of the class.  One of these is to be quiet when asked and to talk on task.

In science we are back to the body systems.  This includes which systems work together to keep the body running.  This week we are discussing the Skeletal system and the Muscular system.

In Social Studies:
We are going to finish up our Shadow Boxes depicting Egyptian Culture.  The students are having a good time with this.

Thank you for Caring,

Veteran's Day :)

Thank you to all the veterans that have helped to keep this nation safe.

Parents,
Hello, hoping that you are having a wonderful veteran's day.  Maybe going a picnic, now that the weather is cool. Maybe going to see a movie as a family, or just staying home like me and playing board games.  Board games are a wonderful way to connect again.

This week in Campbell's Class we are trying to get caught up with all past and missing assignments.  The students are retaking tests to improve scores.  Remember that progress reports will be going out on Wednesday the 17th.  Be on the lookout for them.  They are to be signed and returned to the teachers by Friday the 19th.

I am still having some students that are not coming to class prepared, so I am asking for your help to make sure that your child always has; pencils, paper, homework, and agendas.

Science:
We are continuing our studies with plants in science.  We will be reading all about flowers and seeds this week.
Please have students bring in flowers and seeds to add to our hand on table.
The students will be completing a KWL chart on what they know and what they would like to know about flowers.
Next week, we will head back to the body and learn all about the bodies systems and how they work together to keep the body going.

Social Studies:
We are deep into Egypt, learning about Egyptian societies and government.  The students have learned about the social structure of Egypt and why it is important to understand this.  We have also discovered why trade is an important part of Egyptian life.

11-1-10 WoW it is Getting Cold!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

6th Grade News
The 6th grade is moving so quickly. The students are writing, building, comparing, debating sides, socializing and just doing all the activities that 6th graders do.

The team is still asking for all parents to help their child/children to come to school and class prepared. This includes cleaning lockers periodically. You would be surprised at what you might find in there.

Parents, also, please remember to always check your child’s/children’s agendas. This is where you will find homework and or any communication from the teachers. For those parents whose child has a yellow sheet for communication, remember that it is your child’s responsibility to bring it to each teacher to be signed, and then to bring it to you each day to be initialed.

Thank you to all the parents that stay in contact, check homework, agendas, donate supplies, and volunteer. It is greatly appreciated.

Campbell’s Science:
Last week we began our unit on the Diversity of Life. The students participated in an investigation where they put celery into colored water to show how the xylem draws in water.
This week we will be continuing this unit, but we will be concentrating on leaves, seeds, and flowers.
If students could find leaves and seeds to bring into class, that would be a fantastic supplement to the unit.

Campbell’s Social Studies:
We have and are continuing our unit on Ancient Egypt. The students are reading and defining vocabulary for this unit. They will be building various structures of Ancient Egypt this week.

Campbell’s Elective:
The elective class is a combination of various studies. Sometimes we write, draw, study character, or just talk about what interests us. This week we will play Blurt and Pictionary along with a little bit of reading comprehension thrown in.

As Always,

October 25th/October 29th Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

6th Grade News!

Thank you to all the wonderful parents who attended parent teacher conferences. It was so nice to speak to each and every one of you about your child/children. Many students still need to become more organized and come prepared to class. With parent help, I know that this can be accomplished.

Notices were given out at the conferences about being prepared for classes. They explained that to be prepared for all classes, the students must always bring: pencils, paper, agendas, homework, and we are asking all students to bring a personal pencil sharpener. A small plastic one (non-battery operated) with a cover. Many items need to be replaced throughout the year, such as: reams of paper (white preferred, but any color will do), boxes of tissues, and disinfecting wipes.

Thank you again to all parents, for all your support and generosity throughout the year.

SCIENCE:
This past week in science we finished our unit on the hierarchy of cells. The students created skeletons and filled them up with the organs of the bodies systems. They had a great time doing this and the bodies turned out fantastic.
This week in science we are going to be discussing plant structure and how plants survive. The students will be bringing home homework, so please make sure you are checking agendas for this. Great website- Biology4Kids.com

Campbell’s Social Studies-
The students finished a unit on prehistory and ancient Mesopotamia. They created posters depicting, how they lived, movement, how water affects civilizations, the religious aspects of a civilization, and the social classes of a civilization.
This week we will be incorporating these same concepts while we read and look at ancient Egypt.

Campbell’s Elective-
The students just finished a quick three paragraph essay using a simple sentence. They found appropriate adjectives and adverbs to complement their story. Can’t wait to read them.

This week we are going to concentrate on reading comprehension. We will be reading speed reads and answering questions.

Fall Conferences

10-17-10
6th Grade News

Reminders:
This week there are three half days, Wed., Thurs., and Fri. - dismissal is at 12:45
Conferences are on Thursday 10-21 and Friday 10-22 beginning at 1:30pm

I hope that this news letter finds everyone well rested.  The sixth grade team is excited to be able to meet with all parents this Thursday and Friday during parent teacher conferences.  We look forward to discuss your child’s progress.
The team would like to ask that all parents please make sure that your child is ready and prepared for each day of class.  Help your child remember to bring all necessary supplies to all classes.  Some of these items are, but not limited to: completed homework, pencils, small pencil sharpener with catcher, paper, agenda, color supplies, highlighters, dry erase markers, binders, journals, and water bottle (one is good and can be refilled).
Many of these items need to be replenished throughout the year.  Some of these items are, but not limited to: Completed Homework, Pencils, Paper, Highlighter, and Dry Erase Markers.  Again, if you can make sure that your child is prepared for each work day; this may ensure a less stressful day for everyone, especially your beloved child.
Also, many students need to be reminded of school policies and class procedures.  If all parents can please remind students that some of the policies and procedures are: No gum chewing, Enter classrooms quickly and quietly, Lockers are for getting supplies and not for visiting, Quiet in the Halls, Remain silent when the teacher is speaking, Raise hand to answer questions, Remain in classroom seat unless teacher says to move around, Bathrooms are not playgrounds (keep lights on), When in line, we walk in a straight, single file, quiet line from class to anywhere.  With your help, maybe we can resolve some issues that the team is having with some of the students.

Campbell’s Class J

Fall Yeh!!!!!! 10-11/10-15

6th Grade News
Parents! We still are looking for volunteers, if you would like to help, please contact your child’s teacher.

Its conference time again. Please mark your calendars and save the date. Teachers will be sending out conference slips this week to be filled out for an appointment to discuss your child’s progress. A conference is mandatory to receive your child’s report card. The 6th grade team is looking forward to meeting with all parents.

We have had our first school assembly and the ducks are in season. The fundraiser is going great. Many students are selling enough items to be entered for the Wii and many other great prizes.

Now that fall has arrived, please make sure you are taking your vitamins. The weather is changing and colds will be prevalent. Stay hydrated and healthy.

Campbell’s News:

Social Studies:
We have just finished talking about prehistoric man and have begun a unit on early Mesopotamia. The students will be creating posters showing the life styles, government, religion, and scientific advancements to get us to where we are today in our society.

Science:
We are still discussing the hierarchy of cells. The students started the unit drawing and labeling a plant and animal cell, they made a model of a lung out of a plastic bottle, balloon, and bag, and we are now going to create the body systems. The students are discovering that cells make tissues, that make, organs, that make, systems, that make us. Always remember to slow down a little in this world, spend an hour with your child outside looking at nature and how things work. Ask questions of your child about the everyday things that make the world go around. Talk about machines, bugs, animals, water, mountains, friends, how to use a knife and fork, just talk, and you will be amazed at some of the things kids say.

Elective:
We are continuing with science reading comprehension. Please take 30 minutes or more to read to your child, or have your child read to you. By listening to your child read you will discover if they are reading too fast, too slow, or just having trouble. You will connect with your child when you find books that excite them. I have many books that your child can check out in my room. So, read, read, read.

Thank you for Caring,

October 4th to October 8th- Happy Fall

The 6th Grade News

The 6th grade team is looking for parent volunteers. If you are interested, contact your child’s teacher. We would appreciate any help that any parent can give.

Hello to all from the 6th grade team. Things are really moving along so quickly these days. We are already into October and fall is here. It has come to our attention that many students are telling their parents that they never have homework. Well, I just want to clarify this. There is always homework in language from Mrs. Barron. Your child will almost always have daily work for this subject. In math, Ms. Aven sometimes has homework. Many times it is started in class, and if not completed, it will go home as homework. In Ms. Lyn’s class, your child always must read. Ms. Lyn expects the students to read 30 minutes a day. So, read, read, read. If your child needs to check out a book I (Ms. Campbell) have many in my room that can be checked out. And in my room, I sometimes give homework, but it is usually work that is started in class and not completed in class. Please always check your child’s agenda. All teachers will sign by respective subjects. Parents are to sign also. There is a signature line at the bottom of the agenda page. Please make sure you are doing this.

Only two and a half more weeks until parent teacher conferences. Please keep an eye out for sign-up sheets. They will be set for the week of October 18th. Report cards go home on the 21st. If your child needs to improve their grades for this quarter, now is the time to kick it in gear. They must start focusing and concentrating in class. They must complete all assignment, and make up any missing work. This is not too far away, so please keep reminding them that hard work does pay off. They will see it in their grades.

Campbell’s Class

Social Studies- We will continue to read maps this week. This will lead us into prehistory of man. We will be discussing hunter-gatherer societies and early writing.

Elective- We have started a unit on character. We just finished the character trait of Trustworthiness and will begin this week with Caring. I am hoping to create caring posters, beads, a caring chain, and caring messages to each other.

Science- In science, we have finished our unit on cells which leads us into tissues, organs, and systems. The students will be creating lungs this week and making diagrams of the human body. Be looking for these to come home. I have decided not to create the Jell-O, fruit cell, so no fruit is need after all. I will send the recipe home and the students can do this project with you at home.

August 28th/October 1st

Science-
We are shaking and moving in the 6th grade.  We are going to continue our unit on cells.  The students last week created cell drawings, turned out great.  The students drew, colored, labeled and defined all the parts of the plant and animal cell.  We are headed into diffusion and osmosis and will be doing an experiment on Monday.  Next, we will be discussing how the cell reproduces.  This week the students will be taking a test on Thursday on the cell and cell processes.  Please make sure your child is studying all cell handouts and review sheets this week.

Campbell's Social Studies-
We have completed latitude/longitude and cultures.  We have just begun a unit on the 5 themes of geography and took a test for that.  This week we will be headed towards learning about the continents oceans and countries of the continents.

Campbell's Elective-
This week in the elective class, we will be discussing character traits.  We will begin with Trustworthiness.  The students will be defining vocabulary, creating trust beads, and giving out trustworthy report cards.  We will be discussing people from the past who where considered trustworthy and people who truly need to be trustworthy.  (Presidents, Doctors, Firefighters, Police, etc)  The students will also be creating a drawing about a trusted friend and why they are so.  They will also tell why they can be trusted to be a good friend.  They will also be acting out scenarios about trustworthy issues.

Donations- Any and all donations are greatly appreciated.  This week I am looking for any small items that can be used to represent parts of a cell.  Instead of doing the fruit cell, I have decided to do a bubble cell.  I am looking for buttons, rubber bands, yarn, round wood or plastic pieces, lids to milk, soda, or water bottles, etc.  I am also needing small empty water bottles to do experiments about the lungs and balloons too.

Happy Fall- 9-20/9-25

This week has been so productive.  We have finished our unit on the scientific method, variables, and a lesson on tools used in science.  The 6th grade also did and investigation making print drops to discover the relationship between height and width.   Ask your child what they found out.  We also made pinwheels for peace.  To celebrate the anniversary of 9-11, and try to understand tolerance, peace, and harmony.  Please try to advise your child, that when in school, tolerance is the way to proceed in a disagreement with others.  It is better to walk away and find an administrator than to take action into your own hands.

In Science this week:
We are beginning our unit on Cells.  We will be discussing cell theory, the parts of a cell, comparing and contrasting of a plant cell and animal cell.  We will also be creating posters of the plant and animal cell.  In this unit the students will be learning about diffusion and osmosis.  We will be conducting an investigation using potatoes to see the effects of diffusion.  Here the students will predict, record, and explain their results.
We are also still going to be making cells next week, so be on the look out for the materials list.

Campbell's home room Social Studies:
This week in social studies we are continuing our unit on the 5 themes of Geography.  We are discovering interaction and movement this week, and on Friday the students will have a test on this unit.

Campbell's home room Writing:
The students have finished their rough draft for their writing assignment on, What insect/animal would they become.  This was a narrative essay using the 5W's and H (who, what, where, when, why, and how).  The stories are really great so far.  We are moving on to editing our work this week.

Thank you to all the students and parents who have brought in supplies.  All supplies are greatly appreciated and welcomed all year round.

Happy Mid Month- 913/917

Parents!!!!!
Hello all, Hope things in your world are spinning wonderfully.  We are once again at the middle of the quarter.  Quarter progress reports will go home this Wednesday.  Please remember that these are just progress reports and the students all still have four more weeks to improve are maintain the grade that they have.  Many students still need to get themselves organized.  If I can have the help of all the wonderful parents to remind their child/children, that the lockers are for storing things not needed at a given time.  They are not to be used for poster hang ups, socializing, and just shoving your stuff into.  We the teachers are still noticing that many students are using the locker time to socialize instead of going to the restroom.  Again, please remind your child to use the lockers appropriately.  Thank you.

Campbell's Science-
This week we will be taking our unit test on the Scientific Method and Variables.  We will also be creating Pinwheels for Peace.  This promotes tolerance, and harmony among individuals.  We will then be moving into the cell and cell systems.   We are going to be discussing diverse individuals who have made contributions to science, and we are going to conduct another investigation- Making Drop Prints- The students will conduct the investigation and measure distance.  They will notice patterns and draw conclusions about the relationship between height and width.

Campbell's Home Room Social Studies-
In Social Studies this week we are going to have our unit test over culture.  The students will create a culture collage about themselves using magazine cut outs.  From there we are going to dive right into the five themes of Geography.  The students will read, discuss, fill out graphic organizers, and learn new vocabulary about the 5 themes.

Campbell's Home Room Writing-
We have switched the Elective block to a Writing block.  For this weeks writing, the students will be creating an insect or animal that they would like to become.  They will then write a Narrative about, How, Who, What, Where, When, and Why they are that insect or animal.  In a Narrative details are the most important thing.  When you help your child with this homework, please make sure they are adding an explosive amount of details, many, many, adjectives and adverbs.

I encourage and want all parents if you can, to please help your child with all homework.  Give direction and guidance.  Homework is to complement what is happening in class, it is not busy work.

I am going to be doing many experiments and investigations in science class, and I am looking for donations to help curb the expense of some of them.  If any parent has the ability to donate it will truly be appreciated.
Donations of:
Magazines, baggies of all kinds and sizes, napkins, paper plates, paper bags (lunch size), construction paper, clear cups, food coloring, and anything else you think can be used in science.  I will always be updating the list as donations come in.  Please donate even if it is only one thing on the list.  Thank you so much.
Next week your child may come home and say that they need fruit for an experiment, this will be true.  I am going to try to have the students build plant and animal cells.  I will keep you posted.

All home work can be found in student agenda.  I am also making agenda sheets that the students who do not have an agenda can use.  So parents, please check agendas and agenda sheets daily.  My homework sometimes changes so I am not going to post any.  If you have any concerns about this you can e-mail me and I will gladly tell you what the homework was for the day.

Character

It has come to the attention of the 6th grade team that many students are not exhibiting excellent character.  So I have decided to remind everyone, Character is:
1. How you act when no one is looking.
2. How you treat others.
3. What words you choose to use when talking about others.
4. Putting yourself in someone else's shoes.
5. Showing empathy towards others.
6. Cleaning up a mess even when you did not create it.
7. Showing others how to act through example.
Now I know there are many other ways to show excellent Character, these are just a few.  Let's all try to rise to the challenge of being People of Excellent Character.

Thank You for Caring,
Dream Big!!

The First Weeks of School :)

Well, we have all had an exceptionally busy week at school.  The students finally got their lockers and they are sooooo excited to be in them.  Many still need to learn how to figure out the locks, but that will come with time.  Science class is progressing, we are studying the Scientific Method.  The science fair is just around the corner, so, start thinking of the experiments that you might like to do.

The students designed a folder for their portfolio in science.  They were fantastic.
We also created a character tree.  The students of the whole 6th grade team created an animal, leaf, fruit, flower, or anything that could compliment a tree.  We then colored them and put them on the community class tree.  The tree represents our team class unity.  The students had fun creating it, and they are having fun looking at all the art.  Parents are encouraged to come and take a look at it.

Homework in Science today- No Homework.  Come to class rested and prepared.

Thank You for Caring :)
Remember, Nothing happens unless you dream, so dream BIG!

Another Card found at Target

Since the beginning of time, the earth has always known to spin on its axis......
the sun has always known to rise in the east and set in the west.........
the stars have always known to light up the night sky.
The same wisdom that keeps the world turning, the sun shining, the stars twinkling, lives in you, too.
And when the time is right, you'll know exactly what to do.
Thinking of You!!!!

STRESS!!!!!!!!!!!!

I found this poem on a card at Target- Thought it was an excellent way to describe STRESS-

Stress- Is like an unwelcome house guest that shows up on your doorstep when you least expect it.
It takes up all your time and energy and whats you to entertain it.
It keeps you up at night, wakes you early in the morning and drives you crazy,
And then it doesn't have the decency to know when to leave.

Remember- You are the only one that can shut the door on STRESS.
Sleep tight

Thank You Letters

Maybe one day this summer, just sit down and try the lost art of writing a letter.  Maybe start with a thank you letter to someone that has helped you in some way.

Saying Thank you in your own words is easy and when it is from your heart and when you act of kindness will extend to the giver and brighten their day.  Some ideas to get started:
Your thoughtfulness shows in everything you do.
To thoughtful you.... From thankful me.
How can I find the right words to thank you.
Your kindness and caring mean so much to me.
Thank you for being the person you are.
Thanks for being you.
I appreciate you and the things you do so much.
You always know the perfect thing to do to make me feel special.

These are just a small sample- make up some of your own and write, write, write.

Words From Nelson Mandella "Invictus"

I am the master of my fate.
I am the captain of my soul.
How do we inspire ourselves to greatness when nothing else will do?

These lines are from the movie InvictusThe lines inspired me and got me to thinking a little deeper.  Hope they will do the same for you.  Invictus means undefeated.

HUGS

It's wondrous what a hug can do.  A hug can cheer you when you're blue. A hug can say, "I love you so."  Or, "gee, I hate to see you go."  A hug is "welcome back again."  And "great to see you! Where've you been?"  Hugs are great for fathers and mothers.  Sweet for sisters, swell for brothers.  That hug!  There's no doubt about it.  We scarcely could survive without it.  So stretch those arms out without delay.  And give someone a hug today!!

I just wanted to share a hug with you.

Today is the first Day!

Today is the first day of the rest of your life.
Remember that sometimes life can give you lemons, so make lemonade.
Here I am again trying to adjust to another new job.
Why is it when you just get settled and find something that fits, someone new comes along and says that it doesn't.
So then you are forced to readjust and make the best of things.
In my case, I seem to always land on my feet just like a cat, but it's the fall that sometimes is scary.
So, when faced with new challenges, always look for the rainbow.

Read, Read, Read!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Literacy

1. Read in your home. Let your children see you reading; books, newspapers, magazines, mail, e-mails, etc.

2. Have a wide selection of printed materials easily accessible to everyone in the home. Simple materials could be: catalogs, junk mail, newspaper coupons, and free materials given out at community events.

3. Read aloud to your child regularly. Start when they are young and keep reading aloud, even when they are older. Everyone in the family should get involved. Getting your child used to reading out loud in the comfort of your home builds confidence in your child.

4. Create a special place for reading in a commonly shared room of the house. Turn off all distractions, and listen to your child read, this is a fun and exciting thing to do. While listening you can monitor fluency.

5. Get everyone involved and READING!!!!

Some wonderful ways to buy books are at the thrift stores and at the library. You can pick up used books from 25 cents to 1$. It is a fun way to spend the day as a family.

Make the Right Choices

In life there are many things that we need to choose. What clothes to wear? What toothpaste to buy. But when it comes to real life issues, such as; should I steal? Should I follow what my peers are doing, when I know that it is wrong? Should I swear in class?

Because we live in a society that deems that we conform, one must make appropriate choices. One must put their own feelings and wants aside and do what society deems appropriate. Such as not stealing. We must always use constraint and common sense.

If we do not, then we must suffer the consequences.

How to Make it all Work Out

The Mayonnaise Jar and 2 Cups of Coffee

When things in your life seem almost too much to handle, when 24 hours in a day are not enough, remember the mayonnaise jar and the 2 cups of coffee.

A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him. When the class began, he wordlessly picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls. He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was.
The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls. He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was.
The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else. He asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded with a unanimous, "Yes."
The professor than produced two cups of coffee from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar effectively filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed.
"Now," said the professor as the laughter subsided, "I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life. The golf balls are the important things--- Your family, your health, your children, your friends, and your favorite passions, your faith--- and if everything else was lost and only they remained your life would still be full.
The pebbles are the other things that matter-- your job, your house, and your car.
The sand is everything else-- the small stuff.
"If you put the sand into the jar first," he continued, "there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls. The same goes for life. If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff you will never have room for the things that are important to you.
"Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness.
Play with your children.
Take time to get medical checkups.
Take your spouse out to dinner.
Eat dinner with the family at the table.
Relax in the front yard.
There will always be time to clean the house and fix the disposal.
Take care of the golf balls first-- the things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand."

One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the coffee represented. The professor smiled. "I'm glad you asked. It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem, there's always room for a couple of cups of coffee with a friend."
___________________________________________
I received this story from a special professor, who was wise beyond his years. He shared with me and now please share with someone you care about. And remember, leave the sand behind, unless you'er walking on the beach.

When You Thought I wasn't Looking

A special friend e-mailed me this poem. I thought I would share. I do not know who the author is, but it is a fantastic poem and all credit goes to whom ever wrote it.

When You Thought I Wasn't Looking
A message every adult should read because children are watching you and doing as you do, not as you say.

When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw you hang my first painting on the refrigerator, and I immediately wanted to paint another one.
When you thought I wasn't looking, I say you feed a stray cat, and I learned that it was good to be kind to animals.
When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw you make my favorite cake for me, and I learned that the little things can be the special things in life.
When you thought I wasn't looking, saw you make a meal and take it to a friend who was sick, and I learned that we all have to help take care of each other.
When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw you take care of our house and everyone in it, and I learned we have to take care of what we are given.
When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw how you handled your responsibilities, even when you didn't feel good, and I learned that I would have to be responsible when I grow up.
When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw tears come from our eyes, and I learned that sometimes things hurt, but it's alright to cry.
When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw that you cared, and I wanted to be everything that I could be.
When you thought I wasn't looking, I learned most of life's lessons that I need to know to be a good and productive person when I grow up.
When you thought I wasn't looking, I looked at you and wanted to say, "Thanks for all the things I saw when you thought I wasn't looking."

Remember: Someone is always watching.

On Time For School

What is the importance of being on time for school? Does chronic absenteeism and tardies really upset the flow of the school day? Mr. Paul Sena, a school principal researched and came up with these results.

On national average, children missed five days of school in kindergarten, 4.5 days in first and second grade, and 3.7 days in the third, fourth and fifth grade. Almost 14% of kindergartners, 12% of first and second graders, and 10% of third, fourth and fifth graders were at risk of absentees. They missed an average of 12 to 18 days during the school year. The term used in studies is "chronic absenteeism," but honestly, it should be identified as "habitual offenders." Now, I know that sounds harsh but, as a data-driven society, this too needs to be recognized and improved. We as a team of educators, parents, children and community, need to demonstrate concern and make changes to improve chronic/habitual absenteeism's and tardies in the early grades.

School attendance and punctuality are important factors in school success. Regular attendance and punctuality are expected of all students and necessary for achieving success. Classroom work missed can never be made up in a completely satisfactory manner. The educational value of the class activities is missed forever. Absences for annual reasons such as vacations, hunting and family visiting should be discouraged. Tardies for such reasons as "my alarm clock did not go off," "I couldn't get my children moving this morning," "I'm late most of the time anyway," and any late-night activity during the school week should be discouraged.

Inconsistent attendance and tardies in the early grades usually signal symptoms of possible problems in middle school and high school. Middle school and high school students placed in a chronic category of poor attendance or tardies usually have records indicating problematic behavior in the elementary school years. Parental responsibility is a key element in attempting to prevent student absenteeism and tardies at the primary and secondary level and should be implemented as early prevention and intervention for elementary children. Parents and the community need to not only read about, but speak out about, their concern of absenteeism and tardies. An open dialogue in the work place, home, church, shopping areas and restaurants is essential to reach out to parents who do not have the opportunity to read about prevention and intervention of absenteeism and punctuality in the early grades.

In summary, punctuality and daily attendance are integral parts of the learning experience and are required of all students to receive maximum benefit of the educational program. Absenteeism is a barrier that impedes student learning. Tardiness disrupts classroom routines and begins the day in a negative way for the student. Therefore, we clearly need to be proactive for early prevention or intervention of absenteeism and tardies in students' early school years.

Poems From A Great Teacher

Poems from a Great Teacher (Dr. Buscher)
These poems were given to me from a fantastic teacher; read, enjoy, and give some thought:

Desiderata-

Go placidly amid the noise and haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible without surrender be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly to others,
even the dull and the ignorant;
they too have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit.
If you compare yourself with others,
you may become vain and bitter;
for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself,
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
Keep interested in your own career, however humble;
it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
Exercise caution in your business affairs;
for the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you to what virtue there is;
many persons strive for high ideals;
and everywhere life is full of heroism.
Be yourself.Especially,do not feign affection.
Neither be cynical about love;for in the face of all aridity and disenchantmentit is as perennial as the grass.
Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.
Beyond a wholesome discipline,be gentle with yourself.
You are a child of the universe,no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.
Therefore, be at peace with God,
whatever you conceive Him to be,
and whatever your labors and aspirations,
in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul.
With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world.
Be cheerful,
Strive to be happy.

Desiderata- Max Ehrmann- 1927

The Bottom Line

Face it.
Nobody owes you a living.
What you achieve or fail to achieve in your lifetimeis directly related to what you door fail to do.
No one chooses his parents or childhoodbut you can choose your own direction.
Everyone has problems and obstacles to overcomebut that too is relative to each individual.
Nothing is carved in stone.
You can change anything in your life,if you want to badly enough.
Excuses are for losers.
Those who take responsibility for their actionsare the real winners in life.
Winners meet life's challenges head onknowing there are no guaranteesand give it all they've got.
It's never too late or too early to begin.
Time plays no favoritesand will pass whether you act or not.
Take control of your life.Dare to dream and take risks.
If you aren't willing to work for your goals, don't expect others to.
BELIEVE IN YOURSELF!

I hope you enjoyed reading the poems, they gave me inspiration and food for thought.I hope that you will read them and take what you need from them.
